Burt Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, singer, and record producer. He is known for his popular music hits of the 1960s with lyricist Hal David, such as “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head” and “What the World Needs Now Is Love”.

 

Bacharach has composed hundreds of songs in his career that span many different genres. His compositions have been featured in films such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969), Austin Powers (1997), and The Look of Love (2013). He has won six Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

 

In addition to writing music, Bacharach has also recorded several albums as a solo artist. His most successful album was Reach Out (1967), which included the hit single “Alfie”. He continued to release albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s. In 2008, he released At This Time, his first studio album in 18 years.

Burt Bacharach is an American composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, and singer known for his popular hit songs of the 1960s. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on May 12th 1928.

 

He began playing piano by ear at the age of five, and was already performing with a band at the age of twelve. By the time he graduated high school, he had composed over 150 songs. In 1945, he enrolled in McGill University in Montreal to study music composition and theory. After two years there, he transferred to New York’s Mannes College of Music where he studied under Austrian composer Darius Milhaud.

 

In 1950, Bacharach moved to Los Angeles to work as an arranger for Marlene Dietrich and then Nat King Cole. He soon began writing songs for films and television shows like “Alfie”, “The Look of Love”, and “What’s New Pussycat”. His first big success came when Dionne Warwick recorded his song “Don’t Make Me Over” in 1962. This was followed by a string of hits including “Walk On By” and “Do You Know The Way To San Jose?”.

 

Throughout the 1960s and 70s, Bacharach collaborated with lyricist Hal David to write some of the most successful pop songs ever recorded. They won three Grammy Awards and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972. In 1997, they received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences.
