Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown has quit using social media. Why did she do that though? Can’t she keep up with all the heat and attention that she’s getting?
Well, the actress said it herself that copping so much negative heat online is unbearable for her. The actor was only 12 when she debuted as Eleven on the popular Netflix series, Stranger Things – back in 2016.
Now 18, Millie says she has faced so much online hate and bullying that she has decided to pull the plug on communicating via social media.
“It’s really hard to be hated on when you don’t know who you are yet,” the actress shared in a new interview with Allure.
She said it’s like, ‘What do they hate about me?’ Cause I don’t know who I am. It’s almost like, ‘Okay, I’m going to try being this today.’ [And then they say], ‘Oh, no, I hate that.’ ‘Okay. Forget that. I’m going to try being this today.’ ‘Oh, my God! I hate when you do that.’ Then you just start shutting down because you’re like, ‘Who am I meant to be? Who do they need me to be for them?’” she added.
Millie explained that she had someone else manage her Instagram and Facebook pages, the only social platforms she hasn’t deleted.
She only communicates directly with her fans through blog posts that read like diary entries on the Florence by Mills website and she says that interaction works as “nobody can comment”.
With getting older, Millie has recognised the importance of understanding herself and blocking out the opinions of others.
“I started to grow more, and my family and friends really helped. It helped to be able to understand that I don’t need to be anything they said that I need to be. I just have to develop within myself. That’s what I did,” she told the outlet.
